You would never believe how many children are going hungry on weekends and when school is not in session, in our own back yards.
The numbers were shocking and until now, local foodbanks would allow for some students to receive weekend food while others not. What do we mean? Let’s say a family has 3 children in elementary school. While a small amount of children are “chosen” anonymously, one sibling might receive the food support on weekends, while the other two might not. This didn’t make sense to us. All children that are identified by the school should receive the support.
We have set up Young Children’s Charities to be the extra helping hand these children need. We were blown away when we realized just how inexpensive it actually takes to feed these children. This November/December we will be making baskets for families of up to 6 people for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We will also be providing meals for these children the week off for Thanksgiving and the two weeks off at Christmas. We are currently providing food to children at Carolina Park Elementary, Laurel Hill Elementary and Cario Middle School. We are expanding out of Mount Pleasant to help a school in need in North Charleston, North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary School.
In our first 10 months since launching our charity, we have served over 8,000 meals to children in the CCSD district who wouldn’t have otherwise known where the meals are coming from. As we grew quickly, we realized we cannot do it without you!
We have lots of sponsorship opportunities and everything helps! While these are the suggested amounts, no amount is too little or too big. We appreciate your help in any way you can give it. How you can help
Your donation will help feed a family of 6 this holiday season. Recipients will receive a basket of food for a complete holiday meal.
Your donation will feed a child on the 4 weeks off during the school year including Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring break.
Your donation will feed a child every weekend of the school year, as well as the teacher work days and other 3 day weekends. A complete day of food comes to $2.27 a day.
Your donation will feed a child the entire school year including holidays, days off, school breaks and angel tree.
Your donation will feed 2 children the entire school year, including holidays, breaks. Two donations to angel tree will be made.
Your donation will feed 5 children the entire school year, including holidays, breaks. Two donations to angel tree will be made.
